Jeremy Heron elected as District Councillor for Ringwood South

At the by-election held in the Ringwood South Ward of the District Council held on 19 June, Jeremy Heron was elected to fill the vacancy on the Council caused by the death of former Councillor Danny Cracknell. The votes cast were:

Peter Chambers (Liberal Democrat) - 354
Peter Harper (Labour) – 113
Jeremy Heron (Conservative) – 610

The turnout was 23.25%.

Cllr Heron's success increases the Conservative Party's majority on the 60-seat District Council from 45 to 46. The Liberal Democrats have 14 seats.

Cllr Jeremy Heron is well-known in Council circles, having been a member from May 1999 until May 2007. He held two portfolios at different times during that term of office – he was firstly the Crime & Disorder Portfolio Holder, and latterly held what was then the Economy and Planning Portfolio.

Jeremy is the brother of Cllr Edward Heron, who represents the Downlands and Forest Ward on the District Council and who is the Environment Portfolio Holder.
